Privacy

Andrew Jacobs Conveyancing will receive personal information and data about you. This Privacy Notice explains why such personal information and data is necessary and how we use it.

Reason for collecting personal information and data

Conveyancing involves the movement of a person’s most valuable asset (land and property) and significant sums of money. For this reason we have legal obligations to adhere to and we are strictly regulated. We are also required to comply with the rules and regulations of financial institutions such as banks and building societies and various government agencies such as H M Revenue & Customs and the Land Registry. In order to discharge those obligations we need to collect personal information and data.

Basis of processing

We will process your information on the basis of fulfilling our contract with you and the legal obligations that arise through the conveyancing process.

What happens with your personal information and data

We will use your personal information to contact you or to provide you with services that you have requested. We will not use your personal information for marketing purposes nor will it be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
When your personal data is collected, it will only be shared with third parties, for example HM Revenue & Customs to submit your Stamp Duty Land Tax Return. This type of sharing is necessary for the conveyancing process.
Your personal information and data will be held for a minimum of six years (fifteen years if the matter involves completion of a new mortgage) or such period as is necessary to comply with the law and our obligations to any third parties. After this time, the paper copy will be destroyed and an electronic copy kept on our systems.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us to provide you with the information we hold about you and to update any data we hold.
You have the right to require us to delete the personal information and data we hold provided it does not conflict with our legal obligations and obligations to any third parties involved in the conveyancing process.

The Internet and Electronic Communications

A significant proportion of what we do involves the internet and electronic communications such as e-mails. We engage the services of separate and independent IT companies and specialists who have access to your personal information and data. We have ensured that such organisations have their own privacy policies.
We also have a website. Website usage information is collected using cookies. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit to identify you. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide relevant
